Takuji's Presentation 1
Hokule'a crew member Takuji Araki traveled through Okinawa speaking to students from several different high schools about the connections between Hawaiian and Okinawan voyaging traditions. In this photo, about 330 10th- and 11th-graders from Okinawa Fishery High School listen as Takuji explains the "Sabani"--the traditional Okinawan boat used to travel throughout Asia.

Next he explained about Star Navigation and lastly he talked about the Hokule'a and it's arrival in April. All of these presentations were well received and really brought together the meaning of "One Ocean, One People."

Students also watched an interview with Nainoa Thompson discussing the significance and meaning of the Hokule'a's voyage to Japan. The interview was filmed by Hawai'i Tourism Japan.
