Judging Criteria

I. COMPELLING CONTENT (75 points)

• The tone and message of the essay are positive and life affirming.
• The essay cites values for life that would make the world a better place if others were to live according to them.
• The essay is thought-provoking and moving.
• The essay reveals something special and compelling about the author.
• The essay portrays values in a unique and special way.

II. PRESENTATION (25 points)

• The essay is well-organized and clearly written.
• The parts of the essay are interrelated and cohesive.
• The author’s views are clearly stated.
• Language used is precise, vivid, and clear.
