At 26 degrees N (Okinawa), as Hanaiakamalama (Southern Cross) sets S by W, two very bright stars, Kamailemua and Kamailehope (Beta and Alpha Centauri) cross the meridian about 1 hour and 25 minutes apart, at 3.5 and 3 degrees respectively, above due south. Kamailemua aligns with Menkent and points due south; Kamailehope aligns wiht Alpha Lupis and points due south--for the navigator, two more indicators of direction and latitude.
