A dog named Hokuli'ili'i, a pig named Maxwell, and two chickens were on Hokule'a's first voyage to Tahiti in 1976. The Polynesians who settled Hawai'i brought with them dogs, pigs, and chickens.

The dog used the bathroom on the canoe.
