Introductions > Summary of Paulina’s Talk by Salilo Foifua, Stevenson Middle School student

Paulina came to our classroom on Tuesday. She went on the Hokule’a voyage because of Nainoa Thompson. Before they went voyaging, she had to do lessons in case of emergency and because it was her first time on the Hokule’a. She had to have swimming lessons and sailing lessons. She missed the firs day of practice. The second day was cancelled but she finally made it for the sailing lessons. But then she still had to swim for 1 mile so she can go. First day on the voyage, she was sick. So the crew members let her rest for a night. After her rest, she started working everyday. On their voyage they saw many sea animals. They voyaged to Micronesia to bring one of the canoes for someone special – Mau Piailug. They left the canoe Maisu on the main island of Yap because Satawal’s channel was too narrow. After Satawal, Paulina went back home to Chuuk. Then, she flew to Hawaii .

Her voyage was very interesting. When I asked questions, she answered right back at me. And she also told of the man (Eddie Aikau) who was lost at sea. I felt sorry and scared. But since she told the story from the beginning it made me feel like I want to go voyaging. Thank you Paulina.
