Hi Sid, I'll be emailing you some lessons I have been working on in the next few days. Feel free to use whatever you can. I am trying to incorporate the state benchmarks and GLO's into this in a way that meets my and the state's goals. It's kind of a lot and it is about 8-9 weeks long (if all goes as planned). THose maps provided by KGMB will be extremely useful in the simulation.

There are 135 students in my Social Studies classes (approx 21 to 25 per class) and approx 15 students total in six different classes willing to participate att. I've posted two entries--in the Teacher Space as a reply to "The Voyages and Chuuk High School" by Clark Graham at FSM (Clark & I are beginning to exchange/discuss our classrm experiences and educational related ideas and resources) and the other posted entry is with "2007 Voyages Weblog>2/21: Sailing for Pohnpei!". Pls read this to save time reintroducing myself and our course objectives. Students that have a home computer w/printer has an advantage over the four classrm computers that need to be shared. I intend to have students keep a journal of their correspondence on-line & printout their correspondence. Students not interested in the voyage for education or due to computer shortage/use of computer will be another challenge (at which time, I may return to the textbook & workbook routine). Hopefully, I can form group work with activities/presentations on a wkly basis. Constructive use of classrm time and proper guidance will be another challenge. Guiding each student confidence, skills, and abilities to be a self-directed learner, to be a community/global contributor, to be a complex thinker, a quality producer, to be an effective communicator, and to be an effective/ethical user of technology is an everyday challenge. I just hope these 15 students can involve/inspire the other students to participate in this opportunity for a global educational voyage. I encourage other educators to join in and should you know of someone interested/willing to be a guest speaker for our Kalama students, while living/visiting on Maui, pls contact me via email....
Otherwise...My thoughts & prayers are w/the crewmembers & their families!!!!....Sidney Piosalan...:)...
