Dear Sidney,
Thank you so much for the insightful comments and postings. I am learning so much from them! I really enjoyed reading reflection by your students.
This PVS Education weblog is a work in progress, and everyday, we are thinking of ways to improve it. And I was wondering if you could give us feedback or suggestions as to how to make this more interactive.
For example, so far, we have many comments posted by students from Hawaii, Chuuk, and Japan. But for the most part, the communication has been one-way: students posting their comments/responses to the question.
We would like to take this to a next level where students from different countries and cultures are interacting with one another, asking questions and posting comments to each other's refelction.
For example, how can we have students from Hawaii responding to comments posted by students from Chuuk? Or how can we have students from Japan reading and responding to the reflections posted by your students on Maui?
One idea we have is to team up some schools like "Pen Pal" and have students read, reflect, and respond to each other's postings.
But at the same time, we don't want to limit interaction to with one or two school.
Do you have any ideas or suggestions as to how to improve this website so to faciliate such interactive global communication?
The educatin program for the 2007 voyage will be a foundation for education program for future voyages including 2009 voyage to Aotearoa (New Zealand). So, we would very much appreciate any feedback, ideas, and suggestions teachers have in making this on-line global community work!
Mahalo and Arigato, Sidney for your passion and dedication!
So much to learn from you!

Wow Sidney.. that is awesome. Glad to see you have a start and the students are participating! Very exciting! I'm trying to do the same but my students don't have a foundation on maps yet so I actually need to do that first. That means it will take me a little while to "get off the ground" with this project.
My team is going to also participate in the Eddie Aikau Essay contest which the theme is something like "Wherever the Hokule'a goes, Eddie's spirit will follow". If you are interested, let me know and I'll give you more info. Hopefully we can incorporate the Hokule'a voyage in all subject areas! Please keep us updated on your students progress in this project.
Out of curiousity and because I'm struggling with this too... how are you linking your standards and benchmarks in this? I have many ideas but am having trouble organizing them.
Thanks for all the updates on your students activities. P.S. Is that webpage free to create?

My students are trying to respond to other students from the classrm computers with no luck.
