Aloha and mahalo Keali'i!
We are blessed to have you onboard the virtual voyage and your students are lucky to have your insight. Please continue to share your ideas and resources. Culture is definitely a wonderful aspect and Hawaii provides quite an extraordinary place for learning!

Ivee, Hoku Education Team

My 'ohana is from Maui, Hawai'i, and O'ahu. I currently live and teach in Kea'au in the district of Puna on the Big Island. I work at Kamehameha High, teaching 9, 11, and 12 graders, Hawaiian Culture and Hawaiian Leaders.
I was super blessed to work with Uncle Clay and the 'ohana of Na Kalai Waa Moku O Keawe for a few years with student sails. I may not be able to go on a long voyage like many of my friends but I am committed to helping keep the Hookele knowledge alive by planting seeds into the next generation of Hawaiians. The desire is there in our keiki we just need to water and fertilize them so that one day they will blossom in the knowledge of their kupuna.
If anyone would like to know more about how i incorporate hookele and the voyage into my class please let me know.
I have found culture is an awesome subject to teach right now we are working on building model waa kaulua and having the students learn about the waa that way and next we will be going into the aina and ahupuaa and how the waa is connected to that.
