Maisu Sailing

Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 09:47AM

ohana friends, aloha

for those tracking Maizu canoe, it arrived yesterday in Ngulu (between yap and palau) safely (we have a large Typhoon out her right now , typhoon Rammasun, and it is very sloppy , gnarly weather..) . I gave sessario and crew the weather over HF this morning and advised them to hang in the Ngulu lagoon until tomorrow ....they had no word on the typhoon...lucky boys they got to a radio...they are headed back to yap

In palau , they fixed up the railings and did some repairs, good to see the canoe at sea...

enjoy the weekend/bb

PLEASE post more often! Has the canoe left Ngulu? What happened with the Typhoon? How much wind was in the lagoon?

My family and I sailed in Micronesia in 04-06 and we often found ourselves in a lagoon with 40+k of wind whipping up the normally placid lagoon - Ngulu has only a handfull of islets/motus.

Where in the lagoon in Ngulu was the canoe anchored - SE corner perhaps? Not much protection anywhere at Ngulu, from what the chart shows.

Jordan.

Aloha from the Friendly-Family isle of Molokai, Good-Report! We are so happy and share our un-conditional "Aloha" for the continuing long-life of "Maisu" and her compliment full-crew-roster. Job well done in Keeping her "Safe", staunch-n-"Bristol-Fashion", and keeping her out of harms "way" with the Typhoon alarm; may she "Continue-On" and be the "happy" School Ship that she has allways meant to be. Imua "Maisu", keep her maintained-n-"dailed-in" so you folks may have the "Sweet-Glide", Now and many, many more sailing and voyaging generations yet to come. Me Ke Aloha Pumehana jais'/iruka
Kia ora PVS!
Kei te pehea koutou? All good I hope!
Just caught up with my mate Nick Ma, whom I havent seen since 2006. Our last hoe together was onboard a waka taua assisting our Maori Queen down the mighty Waikato when she passed away. Saw Kalena Silva and Larry Kimura during her tangi. As I understand from Nick they were here in Aotearoa for some conference last week. He has manuhiri here from Hawaii, Kelly and Dominique...both Archeologists and involved with PVS/Kamehameha.
Anyway just to tell you that him and I are planning to visit your Islands in the near future...just to give a hand with Dennis Chun for Namahoe or where Tim Gillion is on Maui...as I know there is a waka there waiting to be completed. Bros, let us know cause we keen as! Wati Forbes is over in Japan at the moment so not sure what the story is with him but Im sure he'd be keen! So dont be suprised if we just ah...drop in!

Oh yeah, and just to say that we are launching Hekenukumai's new voyaging waka on the 30th August, to go alongside Te Aurere. It wont get named until the ceremony is happening. I'll send photos over to you!

Nga mihi me nga arohanui ki a koutou o Hawai'i!
